Cinema 4D Script: Auto Make Editable + UV

The data created in the version (e.g. Cinema4D 2025) is not guaranteed to work with older versions (2024 or earlier).

■Description:

Auto Make Editable + UV」is a utility script that automates the workflow of converting

# selected objects to [Make Editable] polygons and [Generating UVW coordinates] in one step.

Functions:

Make Editable:

Converts NURBS and parametric objects such as Extrude, Lathe, Loft, Sweep, Cube, Sphere, and Cone into editable polygon objects.

Automatically removes the default UVW tag generated during conversion.

Generate UVW Coordinates:

Analyzes the existing material projection (e.g., Cubic, Spherical, Flat) and generates a UVW tag using that mapping method.

Installation:

1. Go to: Menu > Extensions (Scripts )> User Scripts > Script Folder

2. Copy the two files included in the download into the opened [Auto Make Editable + UV_En ]folder.

How to Use:

1. In the Object Manager, select the object(s) you wish to process. (Supports multi-selection via Ctrl+A)

2. Run the script from: Extensions > User Scripts > Auto Make Editable + UV_En

 ■Adding to a Palette (Optional):

1. Go to: Window > Customization > Customize Commands

2. In the Command Manager, search for "Auto Make Editable + UV" using the Name Filter.

3. Drag the script to the desired palette at the top.

4. Close the Customize Commands window.

5. Save the layout via: Window > Customization > Save as Startup Layout

Once added to a palette, you can execute the script with a single click for efficiency.

Notes & Limitations:

- This script does not support full Undo before execution. Only one undo step is available. Please save your project beforehand.

- Material tags on Null objects are not supported.

- Objects with multiple materials assigned simultaneously are not supported.

- This script does not support Extrude objects using the "Hierarchical" option. Avoid using multiple splines inside an Extrude.

- For R20 and earlier, make sure to enable " Generate as single object " in the Attribute Manager before converting Extrude, Sweep, Loft, or Lathe objects.

  - Attribute Manager > Caps > Enable “Create Single Object”

  - Then set this as default via: Edit > Set as Default

In R21 and later, this checkbox was removed and is enabled by default internally.

If the above conditions are not met, the script may prompt: "Do you want to include child objects?"

Additional Information:

- Polygon and Primitive objects (e.g., Cube, Cone) will also receive newly generated UVW coordinates.

- If an object is already using UVW mapping, its projection will remain unchanged.

- Starting from R21, when you convert objects like Extrude or Lathe using Make Editable, the resulting polygon mesh is placed inside a Null, and material tags are applied to both. This script will remove material tags from the Null and keep only the tags on the polygon object.

Background:

In architectural visualization using Cinema 4D, material projections are often set to "Cubic" to accurately reflect the real-world dimensions of manufacturer textures. This works well in native render engines or with V-Ray, but external renderers such as D5 Render, Twinmotion, or Lumion require UVW mapping instead.

However, converting to UVW coordinates—especially for Extrude or Lathe objects—requires several manual steps, including making the object editable. This script was developed to streamline and automate that tedious process.
