Cinema 4D Script: Select_Instance

■ About "Select_Instance"

"Select_Instance" is a utility script for Cinema 4D that recursively scans the scene to find all Instance and Render Instance objects (OMultiInstance), and selects them automatically.

■ Main Features

● Selects all Instance and Render Instance objects
The script scans all objects in the scene recursively and selects those set as Instance or Render Instance types.
It’s useful for mass operations like converting instances, optimizing scene performance, or visually isolating these objects.

● Undo support
The selection operation is Undo-registered and can be undone in one step.

■ Installation

Go to Extensions > Scripts > User Scripts > Open Script Folder,
then copy the two files from the Select_Instance folder into that location.

■ How to Use

1.     Run Select_Instance from Scripts > User Scripts.

2.     All Instance and Render Instance objects in the scene will be selected.

■ How to Add to a Palette

1.     Go to Window > Customization > Customize Commands

2.     Type Select_Instance into the Name Filter in the Command Manager

3.     Drag and drop the script into a palette of your choice

4.     Close the Customize Commands window

5.     Go to Window > Customization > Save as Startup Layout

■ Notes

• This script targets only Instance and Render Instance objects. Reference objects are not affected.
• All child objects are scanned recursively.
• Undo is supported for one step only. Saving your scene beforehand is recommended.

■ Remarks

In instance-heavy scenes, it is often necessary to isolate and manage Instance and Render Instance objects for optimizing render performance or repositioning.
Using this script, you can instantly isolate and select only those objects, greatly improving your scene management workflow.
